Mastercard and Fexco: A success story
In 2016, recognising the continued demands on merchants and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) to provide innovative and value added services, Mastercard Payment Gateway Services and Fexco collaborated to enable Fexco’s Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) solutions on Mastercard’s global, brand agnostic gateway.
Mastercard Payment Gateway Services provides multi-channel global payment processing services and advanced fraud prevention and risk management solutions to banks, partners and enterprise merchants. Advanced technology from Mastercard Payment Gateway Services enables customers to accept and process payments in over 177 currencies – across e-commerce, m-commerce and cardholder present channels – with the security and confidence of tools tailored to meet exacting and expanding business needs.
Fexco, one of the world’s leading providers of payment solutions, is the originator of DCC and is the global market leader in the provision of DCC services.
What is DCC?
DCC gives international cardholders the choice to pay for goods and services in their home currency or the local currency of the merchant with immediate visibility of the foreign exchange process.
Headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, eCard S.A. (eCard) offers innovative payment solutions to clients across the region. Predominantly focused on eCommerce, eCard also provides online payment acceptance across mobile and MOTO channels. In addition to supporting traditional payment cards, eCard supports eBanking and eTransfer payments through its PayByLink service.
Currently eCard competes as one of the largest players in the ecommerce space in Poland but is set to consolidate its position as industry leader throughout Central and Eastern Europe having recently completed the merger with DotPay, a leading Payment Institution and online PSP.
In preparing to position itself as one of the largest eCommerce specialists in Poland and across Central and Eastern Europe, eCard’s ambitious growth strategy required it to address the growing needs of their existing merchant base as well as anticipate the needs of new merchants that they sought to add to the expanding network.
eCard became aware of merchants’ growing demands to avail of a range of value added services in a highly competitive marketplace.
eCard sought the advice of their long-standing partner, Mastercard, who in turn introduced its Payment Gateway Services team to Fexco. Working together, the teams proposed a solution that would guarantee a robust technical service meeting the requirements of eCard.
Dynamic Currency Conversion – the first service from Mastercard Payment Gateway Services – enabled eCard to display the price of the goods or services in two different currencies: the Cardholder Preferred Currency (CPC) or the Merchant Preferred Currency (MPC). Mastercard Payment Gateway Services enabled eCard to dynamically convert the price of the goods or services at the checkout page providing real-time foreign exchange rates.
Fexco and Mastercard Payment Gateway Services’ DCC solution was launched for an eCard pilot merchant in June 2017 with immediate success – bringing value to the merchant’s customer base, the merchant and eCard.
Critical to the success of the project was the speed to market of the DCC solution. This was achieved by leveraging pre-existing technical infrastructure between Mastercard and Fexco, using already defined project documentations and availing of teams familiar with their counterparts’ products and services.
